SAP HANA is an in-memory database platform that processes data directly in memory rather than on hard drives. This allows large volumes of data to be analyzed and evaluated in real time, which speeds up decision-making processes and ensures high performance for complex applications.
SAP S/4HANA is an ERP suite that is entirely based on the SAP HANA database. It uses in-memory technology for fast data processing, integrated analytics, and modern user interfaces (e.g., SAP Fiori). S/4HANA replaces older versions of SAP ERP and maps business processes in real time.
SAP S/4HANA offers, among other things:
- Real-time data processing and analysis,
- simplified data models and reduced storage requirements,
- better performance,
- modern user interfaces,
- Ways to automate and integrate AI features.
This helps speed up processes, increase transparency, and reduce costs.
Many companies are facing a transition, as older versions of SAP ERP (e.g., ECC) will only receive support and updates through 2027/2030. Making the switch is worthwhile to ensure security, performance, innovation, and long-term sustainability.
SAP S/4HANA can be deployed as a traditional on-premises installation in a company’s own data center, as a private cloud solution, or as a fully cloud-based solution. Each option offers varying degrees of flexibility when it comes to customization, updates, and operation.
SAP S/4HANA is based on the modern HANA database and offers a simplified architecture, improved performance in analytics and processes, new user interfaces, and a stronger focus on real-time data. Older versions of SAP ERP, such as ECC, are not technologically designed to support these capabilities.

- Regular backups and updates,
- Capacity and Life Cycle Planning,
- Security and authorization checks,
- Use of SAP tools (e.g., SAP Solution Manager or Cloud ALM) for monitoring and automation.
