Neodigital – Paper Is a Thing of the Past

Stephen Voss and Dirk Wittling knew that the future was digital when they founded the insurance company Neodigital in 2017. They made it their mission to consistently digitize all processes and develop the startup into a “Leading Insurance Factory.” It’s a vision they’ve come a good deal closer to realizing over the years.

Thanks to its unique business model—the “insurance technology factory”—Neodigital has been able to attract an increasing number of B2B customers. Other insurance companies integrate the company’s services, which are available on a modular basis, into their own product offerings, thereby enhancing their digital capabilities. Individual customers can handle all their communication with the insurer paperlessly; via the web portal, they can check the current status of their requests at any time with a click of the mouse, make any necessary changes themselves, and download useful documents.

A concept that has proven successful in both the B2C and B2B sectors. Since its inception, the insurer has grown significantly and has established itself in the market with a wide range of products, such as personal liability, dog owner liability, home property, and bicycle insurance.

Initial Situation and Objectives

As more and more third-party insurers integrate Neodigital’s services into their own product portfolios, the company’s internal IT infrastructure has come under increasing strain. In particular, requirements for scalability and performance had risen significantly, and the company was looking for an IT solution that would provide additional resources as needed and support further growth. It also needed to be as easy as possible to use and maintain so that new employees could quickly get up to speed. The issue of reliability also gained importance, as Neodigital guarantees its B2B customers and partners high-availability data around the clock.

While a public cloud solution would meet these requirements, Neodigital would then have to relinquish control over all critical data. This was not a viable option, especially since the company had been continuously modernizing its own infrastructure with the help of the service provider PROFI and therefore wanted to continue using it. Seeking to combine the advantages of a cloud solution with the use of its own IT infrastructure, the company once again turned to its long-standing business partner, PROFI.

“We once again placed our full trust in PROFI for this current project, and as it turned out, we were right to do so. We are very pleased that nothing now stands in the way of our growth and that we can still continue to use our own, constantly modernized data center.”

Martin Büsgen, Senior IT Administrator at Neodigital Versicherung AG

The PROFI performance

Building a private cloud with the software-based enterprise cloud platform Nutanix proved suitable for solving the customer’s problems. Since the Nutanix enterprise cloud solution – unlike a public cloud approach – can be hosted in the customer’s own data center, it offers the same control and security as “classic” on-premises infrastructures. Nevertheless, it offers significantly more flexibility through on-demand resource allocation and, above all, the look and feel of a public cloud solution from well-known hyperscalers (Google, Microsoft Azure, AWS).

The challenge was to set up the Nutanix services in parallel with the ongoing renovation of the Neodigital data center in such a way that all components of the IT infrastructure would work together seamlessly. To achieve this, PROFI consolidated existing isolated infrastructure silos, configured Nutanix according to the customer’s requirements, and integrated all IT resources so that they can now be managed and flexibly accessed via an easy-to-use platform. The heterogeneous three-tier IT landscape, consisting of Hyper-V virtualization hosts and SAN storage systems, was replaced by a hyperconverged, unified infrastructure based on the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud.

The Benefits: Grow Flexibly, Maintain Data Sovereignty

The strength of the current IT landscape lies primarily in combining the advantages of a public cloud-like solution with those of an on-premises infrastructure: Resources that can be accessed as needed provide the necessary flexibility and support Neodigital’s continued growth. At the same time, the company retains complete control over its own data. Customers, business partners, and employees benefit from significantly improved performance and fast access to the information they need. The private cloud ensures high data availability, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the easy-to-use platform saves the IT department a great deal of time, which it can put to better use on growth projects.

“Thanks to our proven, trusting partnership with Neodigital, we were able to implement this project in line with our client’s wishes. We are pleased that our client is now well-equipped to meet the challenges of a digital world for the long term.”

Tom Gumbert, Sales Representative at PROFI AG

Conclusion

After Neodigital made its own highly automated IT platform available to third parties, such as other insurance companies, the demands for flexibility and performance increased significantly. The company was looking for a way to reap the benefits of a cloud solution while continuing to operate its own data center. The integration of the Nutanix platform into the customer’s IT landscape proved to be the ideal solution; as a private cloud solution, it fulfills both requirements and no longer forces the user to choose between them. PROFI implemented this platform and customized it to the customer’s specific needs. Neodigital can now, as desired, access additional IT resources whenever they are needed while retaining control over its own data.

Lecos

Diakonie Schleswig-Holstein

Diakonie is the social welfare organization of the Protestant Church in Schleswig-Holstein. After five years of operation, the existing system—a blade center with six servers—was not only fully depreciated but could also no longer meet the current administrative requirements of Diakonie. PROFI implemented a server and storage expansion plan based on leading Huawei technology. As requested, Diakonie now benefits from doubled performance and more space in the blade rack by replacing the legacy systems with four high-performance servers.

NetApp-Referenz: Pharmadienstleister
